Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) is the use of cutting-edge techniques and tools to enhance the processes involved in raising animals. The automatic, ongoing, and virtually real-time monitoring of animal health, welfare, and output that comes with PLF adoption produces useful data that may be utilized to assist the farmer in making decisions and enhance production efficiency. Improving reproductive performance is a significant concern in animal husbandry. Farms’ technical, financial, and ecological sustainability as well as their ecological footprint are negatively impacted by inefficient reproduction since those unproductive animals continue to release methane into the atmosphere.
Precision Livestock Farming (PLF) is a collective name for a suite of technologies that it is used on and around the animals in the house to continuously monitor their body condition. A key factor is that PLF technology keeps a watchful eye on the animals 24/7. This systematic monitoring allows certain patterns to be recognised. If those patterns differ from the expected patterns, an early-warning system can be developed based on these signals. In veterinary aspect, with PLF applications, farmers can direct their attention to the individual animals that need their help. On their daily inspection of the houses, they can concentrate on the places that need attention, or where problems are a potential threat. This is set to change the lives of farmers and their animals. Farmers can take action as soon as an animal is experiencing any problems. In addition, they can devote more time to preventing problems, so that animals can be reared, or can produce, in a healthy and animal-friendly way.
Ergen cooperates intensively with leading research institutes and universities. I had a chance to work closely with Ergen employees in several research and development projects. Ergen aims to deliver innovative technologies for livestock houses that enables farmers to produce more efficiently, uniformly, safely and profitably in a way that respects animals and the environment.
